Questions for Greenpeace ~

I chose to do my major project on Greenpeace. Greenpeace is an independent protest association that utilizes non-violent direct action to expose worldwide environmental issues and to create solutions which are crucial to a peaceful and green future. Greenpeace’s aim is to take care of the earth and all life in its diversity.
Greenpeace began in 1971 by a small group of Canadian people believing that even a few individuals could make a difference. Greenpeace in Australia began 6 years later in 1977 and their first project was to stop the last whaling station in the (English- speaking) world at Albany, Western Australia.

Greenpeace’s advertisement is at the moment:
(Winter.. You’ll miss it when it’s gone.)
Greenpeace focuses its advertisement on global issues such as climate change, pollution, animal extinction, demolishing rainforests and many other problems with the environment.
Greenpeace target anyone and everyone who can get involved in helping protect the environment.

Major Project ~

1.       The organization of Greenpeace was discovered by a small group of people from Canada in 1971 therefore making Greenpeace around for 40 years.
2.        The advertisement of Greenpeace in 1971 was old and a bit tacky, they had a rainbow with a dove in the middle holding an olive branch off a tree just like the one in the story of Noah’s Arch, and their name GREENPEACE going through the rainbow with a peace sign at the end of it.
Advertisement for Greenpeace in 2011 shows more creativity then just a banner showing their name. The advertisement is of all these trees from a bird’s eye view that have been chopped down and have faces on them, faces showing emotion of their sadness and down the bottom right hand corner some words saying: When a tree falls, it takes other lives with it.

3.       Yes it is appropriate because Greenpeace is about saving the environment and making people notice and get involved. I think the advertisement for Greenpeace is working because people and noticing it and realizing that they have to make a change.
4.       I think a more appropriate design would be to show somewhere on the design some information about how to get involved in Greenpeace.

Concept Drawings ~

Concept Drawings:
In our major project, one of our assessments was to create 3 concepts for our poster. My 3 concepts were all different to one another so I could get a better idea of how I wanted to present my poster. I chose to present my poster on my first concept.

Perspective Drawings ~

Perspective Drawings:
In class we were given a booklet which taught us how to shade and the different kinds of shading. Below there is picture on Line technique shading and Three tone shading.
In the booklet we had to complete a drawing of a single point perspective of a chair. We then had to turn the chair into a 3-Dimentional drawing and add shade to it.
In the booklet we were given a half drawn house from a two point perspective. We had to complete this half drawn house. I had to add a tiled roof, chimney, drain pipes/ gutters to the house; on my free choice I added a path, a garden, a tree and a vent.

Evaluations

Evaluation 1 ~ Drawing of the person next to you:
In this task we were asked to draw the person sitting next to you (in my case it was Nicole). We were told to draw a continuous line drawing of their head and shoulders. 20% of the time we were allowed to look at our sheet of paper to draw them and 80% of the time we had to look at them and not the sheet of paper. I found this task a bit difficult because of having to go over lines to get to one point because we were not able to lift our pencils off the paper.
For the second half we had had to draw each other again doing the exact same thing but this time we were not allowed to look at the sheet of paper at all! I found this exercise hard because it was very tempting to look down at the drawing and see what else you had left to do.

Evaluation 2 ~ Nikki's bike:
In this task Nikki brought in her bike and we were asked to draw it, however we would draw it from the angle we were sitting on and we were given a specific amount of time to draw it, which in our case was about 5 minutes. After the time was up we were asked to stand and swap places with someone on the other side of the bike and continue drawing their drawing of the bike. Again we were given 5 minutes to complete this exercise. We were asked to draw the bike which a piece of charcoal which after the time of drawing was up we had to go outside and spray it so the charcoal would not smudge.
I found this quite easy and interesting because we were asked to draw different angles of the bike which I thought was a good idea.

Evaluation 3 ~Videos on graphic design:
For a couple of lessons Nikki put on some movies about graphic design for us to watch and take notes on. The video was on Elements of Design, Principals of Design, and Imagery in Design.
I found these videos interesting because I learnt quite a lot about the different elements used in design, the principals and imagery in design.

Evaluation 4 ~ Map Work:
In this task we were given an A2 sheet of paper and a destination. We were asked to draw a map without using arrows or words to show our destination. In the next lesson we were given instructions to follow someone else's map and they were to follow ours. The map we were given led us to the bike rack between block B and block S. We found there map quite easy to read because they chose to do a traditional map, and they had very clear images that represented a place in the school and a pathway to the destination. People found our map hard to read because it was a nontraditional map, and we used only images to lead the viewers to the destination. We didn't read the instructions properly which made it harder for the viewers to arrive at their destination. (Our destination was the next room.)
